Cleaning Products That Can Poison Cats
Clean homes should not come at the cost of cat health. Many cleaning products are toxic to cats — not only when swallowed, but through fumes, paw contact, and grooming.

Bleach and disinfectants
Bleach irritates airways and digestive tracts. Never mix bleach with other cleaners — toxic fumes result. Disinfectants containing benzalkonium chloride cause oral ulcers and drooling when cats walk on wet floors and groom.
Phenols and pine cleaners
Phenolic compounds in some floor cleaners and pine-scented products are especially toxic to cats. Cats lack efficient pathways to eliminate phenols, so exposure builds up through skin and inhalation.
The grooming problem
Cats do not just eat cleaners — they lick them off paws after walking across freshly mopped floors. Keep cats out of cleaned rooms until surfaces are fully dry. Rinse food bowls if cleaned with strong products.
